Huginn and Muninn. Odin's ravens.
13 Ounce Coconut Soy Wax Candle with Wooden Wick
WILD ELDERBERRIES
Huginn and Muninn travel across Midgard daily, returning to Odin every evening to share their findings. They were gifted by Odin with the ability to speak.
Huginn translates to "thought" and Muninn to "memory."
Today Ravens are symbols of death. Ravens were also associated with death in Norse mythology. Seeing as Odin is the god of death, this makes sense. The ravens would collect warriors fallen in battle who were chosen to fight with Odin at Ragnarok. But for the Norse, ravens also represent wisdom or guidance.
In the Nordic culture spirit, animals known as fylgjur often accompany powerful men and women. These animals are considered to be manifestations of the person's character. Some believe that Huginn and Muninn were Odin's spirit guides as they would stay by his side in battle and were considered not only his informants but his advisors as well. Others believe Huginn and Muninn are an extension of Odin or a physical embodiment of his luck (hamingja).
